Producer Scouts: Burger and Beer Joint In Miami

Devin Huber - Thursday, October 27, 2011

NBC - 1st Look

By: Brian Mait | Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011

Producers Maureen Giannone and Brian Mait hit the streets to take on the arduous task of scouting the country's hottest destinations for upcoming episodes of 1st Look on NBC. Here's what they found this week.

When I think of Miami, my mind tends to wander to turquoise waters, white sand beaches, and the beautiful people that line them. That is until I landed at Burger & Beer Joint in Miami Beach, FL. From now on, Miami will inspire thoughts of 10 ounces of prime angus beef, hickory smoked bacon, bourbon BBQ sauce, American cheese, sesame seed buns, duck fat fries, seasonal beers on tap, turquoise water, white sand and beautiful people... just not necessarily in that order.

In all seriousness, Burger & Beer Joint is just that, a joint that specializes in serious burgers and serious beers for serious burger and beer enthusiasts. The angus beef patties are chargrilled, juicy (not greasy) and delicious. The "Thunder Road," cooked medium rare (unless specifically ordered otherwise), coated with melted American cheese that holds crispy slices of salty smoked bacon in place and then lightly doused in BBQ sauce, is sheer perfection between a sesame seed bun.

Broward vs. Miami-Dade: Who Has the Best Burger?

Broward vs. Miami-Dade: Who Has the Best Burger?

I just love a challenge. Actually, it's fairer to say I love being the guest judge at a challenge when other people have to cook for me. Who wouldn't want that gig? I not only get a free meal (or the equivalent of three or four meals, which is most often the case), but I also have the fate of someone who knows how to cook much better than I in my hands.

So it was with great pleasure that I accepted South Florida Today's offer to serve as one of three judges for a Burger Challenge last Friday. The cook-off, which took place around 11 a.m., was held outside, and each of the four contenders was given a barbecue from The BBQ Depot in Hollywood. Chefs from Burger & Beer Joint's Brickell location, South Beach's 8 oz. Burger Bar, Coral Springs' Big Bear Brewing Company, and Georgie's Alibi from Wilton Manors wrestled with chilly, high winds that kept blowing out their precious flames while I sat back and wondered who was going to bring out my most carnal carnivorous desires. Just to make sure I wasn't going to be tricked with tofu, prunes, or any other "mysterious" or laxative-type ingredient, I walked grill to grill and confirmed yes, indeed, there was real meat to be had. My stomach was psyched.

The Burger & Beer Joint Rocks!

David Velten - Wednesday, September 23, 2009

One of the latest and greatest hot spots to hit the beach is definitely worth checking out! The Burger & Beer Joint located at 1766 Bay Rd. is three venues in one… You’ve got the burger restaurant downstairs that serves some VERY yummy burgers with fresh cut fries. Plus, you’ve got a nice sports bar featuring 99 brands of beer. Then, for the clubbers, you’ve got a non-pretentious nightclub upstairs. No velvet ropes here! Plenty of couches and chairs to chill with or without bottle service.

Burger & Beer Joint Serves a 10-lb Hamburger

David Velten - Thursday, August 20, 2009

It is only fitting that on South Beach, that bastion of excess where hype and indulgence are king, that one can order a 10-lb hamburger.

Known as “The Mother Burger”, the 10-lb burger is sold at the newly opened Burger and Beer Joint, a place that sometimes takes itself a little too serious for being a burger and beer joint.

For $75 (now $125), you will get 10 pounds of angus beef on a 4 pound sesame seed bun along with two toppings and two sides.

It is the epitome of gluttony. An artery clogging, jaw-stretching , belly-bloating bitch of a burger.

Brought to the table on a pizza peel under much fanfare, The Mother Burger is cut into slices with a hacksaw and served to members of your party.

Burger and Beer Joint- South Beach, Miami

David Velten - Thursday, August 20, 2009

Over the last few weeks I had been talking with my compatriot, The Burger Beast, about trying to do something together with our blogs. The perfect opportunity came up when we heard about the opening of the Burger and Beer Joint, where our two worlds meld into one. The Burger and Beer Joint is located in the less touristy area of South Beach, west of Alton Road, by the Venetian Causeway. It is located next to a cluster of restaurants (Sardinia, Joe Allen’s, etc.) that have had some staying power, considering the area. The Burger and Beer Joint is actually three different venues in one. You have the Burger and Beer Joint which is the restaurant portion and right now, the only section you can actually order the burgers in. You then have the B&B Sports Bar which is attached to the Burger and Beer Joint and can be accessed by going through an internal hallway or by using the Sports Bar’s private entrance. Located upstairs is the B&B Lounge.
